How to Follow the Paleo Diet in the Modern World
We all know that the people from the Paleolithic era or Stone Age ate whole foods or anything they found before they learned of agriculture. This is also known as a cave dweller’s diet, prehistoric, or the hunter-gatherer’s diet. While we do not know what people from this era ate, researchers conclude that their staple diet was wholefoods. This diet program is not complex. You only have to include more fruits and vegetables with regular physical activity. Moreover, you have to cut down on the intake of processed foods.
There was no fixed diet plan that the Paleolithic humans followed; they ate what was available to them. Some of them concentrated on foods that are low in carbohydrates, some only ate animal meat, and others ate fruits and vegetables.
On the other hand, foods that were once available may not be accessible anymore. The lifestyle and eating habits have changed quite a lot since then. Besides, the spices and livestock they once ate are not available.
1. Mixing paleo with modern
The paleo diet has been modified and merged with modern foods so that it can be easily followed. Recently, the paleo diet included gluten-free rice to the plan. In addition to that, some other foods have also been added. They include:
- Red wine
Red wine is added to the diet plan, as antioxidants and nutrients present in it are good for your health. However, this should be consumed in moderation. - Dark chocolate
This is healthy and can be added to this diet. - Beverages
Beverages like green tea and coffee have a high amount of antioxidants and nutrients with innumerable health benefits. - Water
Drinking plenty of water is encouraged in this diet.
2. Paleo simplified
If you want to follow the paleo diet, as per the primal rules, you may find it challenging. This is because the diet restricts you from eating a large number of foods. To make it simple, follow the points below.
- Refer to books published for people following the paleo diet. These cookbooks and recipe booklets have simple and easy rules to incorporate into your cooking plan.
- Alcohol was not included at first, but now moderate amounts are included.
- If you do not like referring to cookbooks, you can find many free websites. They have simple recipes with ingredients that are available conveniently.
- If you socialize often, you may have a hard time following the diet. However, you can choose to eat lean meat, fruits, vegetables, and seafood at restaurants without cheating on your diet.
3. Foods to avoid
An important task is to stick to the diet and stay away from unhealthy foods like pastries, sweetmeats, and carbonated drinks. It is advised to clean out your kitchen and get rid of anything that doesn’t adhere to this diet plan. This will help you follow the diet easily.
