Types of Hotels for Budget Travelers
Traveling sounds expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. For the traveler on a budget, the most expensive things to take care of include airfare and accommodation. Since we all need a safe place to rest our heads after a busy day of sightseeing, it’s important to find the right accommodation for your budget. There are so many options to consider while selecting hotels that fit your budget and has all the amenities you will need.
Types of hotels for a budget traveler can include:
1. Motels
These are generally found away from the center of the city, near the main road and are easily accessible. These hotels are decent with basic yet standard and comfortable services. Every room has a double sharing bed, a phone, television, coffee maker, and a bathroom. All these services can be charged starting at $45 in the country and about $80 in big cities. There are many off-season discounts as well, as motels find it difficult to fill up their rooms.
2. B&Bs and inns
Smaller hotels or bungalows lease out rooms to tourists. They are comparatively less expensive than conventional hotels. They are also great for destination weddings. Some of the BnBs are located in secluded areas with no phone and television, laden in vintage cushions and potpourri, giving it a Victorian-era ambiance. These BnBs can range from $75/80 to $300. Some rental includes breakfast made by owners if it is a homestay property. These are often preferred by families and business travelers, as they appreciate the convenience, cost, and locations.
3. Hostels
Though these types of hotels are more popular in Europe, hostels are preferred by budget travelers and backpackers. Most of these hostels have the same rate as that of motels and are preferred by solo travelers. Additionally, the dorms may range from $18 to $40 while a double sharing room may cost $55 to $65.
4. Historic lodges
Many old-timer towns still have some historical properties that are now converted into hotels. Though these would not have the latest and trendy facilities, they can provide the rustic stay which one can dream of. Any antique ambient room may cost around $90 to $200 or more. This holds for many lodges in national parks which can turn out to be great deals, owing to the rates that are controlled by the federal bureau. One needs to book these rooms in advance as they are not easily available. Some of the popular ones are Yellowstone’s Old Faithful Inn, Glacier’s Park Lodge, Grand Canyon, and El Tovar on the North and South Rims of the Grand Canyon.
5. Boutique hotels
These hotels generally come at mid-range prices. They are smaller in size and have a unique and rustic decor and ambiance. Some of these maintain an eco-friendly atmosphere such as Costa Rica’s Cala Luna and Beachside Palo Verde situated in El Salvador.
